Game 21: Red Wings 6, Oakland 1

Detroit, MI (11/30/69)- This one was never in doubt.

Wayne Connelly scored two goals, Garry Unger had a goal and three assists, and the Red Wings manhandled the Oakland Seals, 6-1 at Olympia Stadium Sunday night.

The Seals, playing the last game of an eight-game road trip, looked tired. They only mustered 16 shots on goal, and only two in the third period.

Bruce MacGregor opened the scoring at 4:23 of the opening period, redirecting a pass from Pete Stemkowski past Oakland goalie Gary Smith. The goal came with the Red Wings shorthanded.

Connelly made it 2-0 11 minutes later, blasting a slap shot from the right circle.

In the third period, the Red Wings poured it on and drove Smith from the net.

Detroit scored three goals in 1:02 of the third period, the last of which got Smith pulled in favor of veteran Charlie Hodge.

Mike Laughton ruined Roy Edwards' shutout bid with a goal at 13:02 of the third period, which was also Oakland's first shot of the stanza.

The Red Wings (11-5-5) are off until Wednesday, when they visit Pittsburgh.

  1. Can you add a note about the real result of the day. I'm curious about a comparison.
