Detroit, MI (12/28/69)- After Friday's horrific performance against Montreal, the Red Wings couldn't wait to hit the ice again.
Sunday, the Oakland Seals felt the Red Wings' wrath.
Gordie Howe scored a hat trick, Bob Baun had five assists and Detroit whipped the Seals, 7-2 at Olympia Stadium.
The Red Wings outshot the Seals, 37-21 and basically dominated play all night.
"Nobody was happy about Friday," Howe said of the 8-3 loss to the Canadiens. "We wanted to put that past us and the best way was to play another game right away."
Howe opened the scoring at 16:20 of the first period, deflecting a shot by Bob Baun past Oakland goalie Gary Smith. Howe completed the hat trick with two goals in the third period, both wrist shots.
Howe netted three goals to lead the Red Wings Sunday night
Billy Dea (twice), Nick Libett and Garry Unger also scored for the Red Wings (16-8-9).
The Red Wings led 2-1 after 40 minutes, then poured it on with five goals in the final stanza. Dea scored twice within 45 seconds to cap the scoring.
In a rarity, the Seals took no penalties the entire game.
